Baked Bratwurst & Sauerkraut

  • 1 package fresh Bratwurst (5 or 6 links)
  • 1 14.5 ounce can sauerkraut
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp caraway seeds
  • Hot dog or sausage buns
  • Mustard - Dijon, hot or spicy, your choice
Preheat oven to 350 degrees

Spread the sauerkraut & brine evenly in a 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking dish. Sprinkle the brown sugar evenly over the kraut, then sprinkle the caraway seeds over the sugar.

Score each of the bratwurst links (about 2 to 3 inches apart) with a knife, then place in the dish atop the sauerkraut mixture. Cover with foil & bake for one hour.

Remove the foil & bake for an additional 15 minutes or until the brats are just-browned. Remove from oven.

Scoop some sauerkraut onto the bun, followed by a brat, then line the brat with mustard.
